I figured I should get to know the person who's been so interested in my wife and her inmate. How did it feel to be watched these last few days?

I already lost most of my privacy. I wondered why you might be interested in me, but nothing else about your choices mattered.

That you keep to a schedule and tend to stay out of trouble.

I wasn't referring to privacy, though. I meant being actively followed. Being the subject of someone's research, something you didn't ask for.

Is that why you wanted to follow me? You wanted revenge? [Their tone is calm. They never directly did anything to her, but they did affect people she knew. It would make sense that she might want revenge.]

Revenge is such an overrated goal. [ She snickers quietly. ] I gave you what you've given others. No more debts. I believe you when you say you meant them no harm.

[ They might even be interesting in their own right. It's too soon to tell. Maybe time will keep bringing them together. Maybe they'll even be friends, or rivals. ...in her view, at least. ]

I meant them harm then, but not anymore.

[They have learned something about her as well: Root cares enough about Shaw to hurt someone who did not directly affect her. She is interesting, but they can learn about her later. For now, they have other work to do.]

Let's leave the past in the past, then. You do them no harm, and I don't go after you.
